The impact of President Akufo-Addo’s investments in the health sector is manifest – Ahiagbah

The Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Richard Ahiagbah has said that the impact of President Akufo-Addo’s investments in the health sector is manifest.

For instance, he said, the Akufo-Addo administration has completed seven inherited hospital projects from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“The Akufo-Addo-Bawumia has completed the nine Kufuor Euroget Hospitals abandoned by the NDC-Mahama Administration; and has started and completed 37 projects, including Phase II of the University of Ghana Medical Center (UGMC). There are 14 additional hospital projects underway, such as the 750-bed Maternity and Children’s Block at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), the 100-bed Obusia Trauma, the new Western Regional Hospital, and the historic Agenda 111 hospitals.

“It is important that on December 7th, we elect a leader who will build on these legacy health sector investments to enhance the well-being of Ghanaians. The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) does not have a comparable record in the health sector nor offers a candidate with the vision and capability to make these urgent investments in health and healthcare delivery,” he wrote on his X platform.

His comments come at a time when President Akufo-Addo has highlighted Ghana’s health journey since independence in 1957 at the Indonesia-Africa Forum held on Monday, September 2 after delivering a message on the importance of health as a cornerstone of economic development.

Speaking under the theme “Wealth through Health: Ghana’s Progressive Journey to Development and Prosperity,” President Akufo-Addo outlined how Ghana’s focus on health reforms has been integral to the nation’s broader strategy for sustainable growth.

President Akufo-Addo began by emphasizing that the wealth of a nation is fundamentally tied to the health of its people. “A healthy population is not just a moral imperative; it is an economic necessity,” he asserted. The President elaborated on how investing in health drives productivity, innovation, and economic stability, laying a strong foundation for sustainable development.

Highlighting Ghana’s health journey since independence in 1957, President Akufo-Addo shared the country’s achievements in expanding healthcare access and improving public health outcomes. A key milestone in this journey was the establishment of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in 2003, which currently covers over 56% of Ghana’s population. This makes it one of Africa’s most successful health insurance programs, ensuring that all citizens, regardless of socio-economic status, have access to quality healthcare.

Mr Ahiagba stated that “The President’s stance is consistent with the World Health Organization’s One-Health Framework and the Health-In-All Approach. These policy frameworks find expression in the 2020 Revised National Health Policy, which the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia Administration is diligently implementing to improve the health and well-being of all Ghanaians.”

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has done the most for health and healthcare delivery since President John Agyekum Kufuor’s introduction of the National Health Insurance Scheme in 2003.

During his address at the Indonesia-Africa Forum in Bali, President Akufo-Addo underscored the essential link between a nation’s wealth and the health of its people. He states that “a healthy population is not just a moral imperative; it is an economic necessity.”

It’s my humble appeal to the middle-class, independent, undecided youth and all objective voters to support Dr. Bawumia, who has demonstrated a firm commitment in the NPP’s 2024 Manifesto to sustain and increase health sector investments.

Remember, health is wealth. A vote for Dr. Bawumia is a vote for your health. Vote for Dr. Bawumia for a healthier Ghana.

Dr. Bawumia means business, so let’s vote for him to deliver for Ghanaians.
