Ghana’s energy transition plan prioritizes environmental sustainability – Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh

The government is working to ensure that Ghana’s energy transition plan does not have adverse effects on the environment.

Energy Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh said the country’s is focused on a clean energy transition plan .
He was speaking at the first Africa Energy Technology Conference in Accra on Tuesday, March 12.

Conference
Organised by the Africa Energy Technology Centre in partnership with the Ministry of Energy, the three-day conference is on the theme, “Africa at the Forefront of Energy Technology and Policy Integration in a Just Energy Transition.”

The theme highlights the fundamental right of every individual to access energy and emphasizes the pivotal role of governments in ensuring socio-economic development through inclusive energy policies. Delegates at the conference will discuss diverse range of topics, such as technological innovation, renewable energy, economic growth, ESG ratings, and energy security.

African countries
Dr Opoku Prempeh, who is also the Member of Parliament for Manyhia South, urged other African nations to learn from the Ghana way in the transition plan. In doing that, he explained, the countries would reap maximum benefits from the programme .

He further stressed the need for African countries to prioritize access to clean and affordable energy for remote communities.

Equally he called for the empowerment of women and youth in the energy sector, and foster partnerships that promote capacity building and knowledge transfer.
