NDC’s Bernard Baidoo Predicted to Secure Victory in Akwatia By-Election, Says Global InfoAnalytics

A new poll by Global Info Analytics has projected victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Bernard Bediako, in the keenly contested Akwatia by-election scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
The survey, conducted between August 27 and 28 with a sample size of 2,050 voters across the constituency, showed Bediako ahead of his closest rival, Solomon K. Asumadu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to the final poll results, Bediako leads with 53%, while Asumadu trails with 47%, placing the NDC candidate in pole position ahead of election day.
The by-election has drawn keen national interest following the passing of the late NPP MP, Ernest Kumi, whose death on July 7 triggered the vacancy.
Akwatia, historically a swing constituency, has alternated between the NDC and NPP over the past two decades, making the upcoming contest a major test of political strength ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Additionally, the polls noted that results reflect not only party loyalty but also voter concerns about unemployment, economic hardship, and access to social amenities, which have become defining campaign issues in the constituency.
Global InfoAnalytics added that undecided voters remain a critical factor, as their eventual choices could either consolidate Baidoo’s lead or narrow the gap in favour of the NPP’s Asumadu.
The Akwatia by-election is expected to be closely monitored nationwide, with security agencies pledging heavy deployment to ensure a peaceful exercise following incidents of electoral violence in recent months.
