Otumfuo Builds Modern Maternity Block For Manhyia Hospital
Lady Julia Osei Tutu, the wife of Asantehene, on Saturday, April, 27, 2024, commissioned an ultra modern maternity block for the Manhyia Government Hospital in Kumasi.
The Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation in partnership with the Joberg Foundation undertook the project in commemoration of Otumfuo’s Silver Jubilee Celebration.
The maternity ward is named after the current Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who was present at the commissioning with some queen mothers in Asanteman.
Facilities
The new block has 16 beds, bringing the current bed capacity in the maternity ward to 40. The new block offers a supplementary operating theatre for surgical procedures and also has a private delivery suite as well as a VIP ward for occupancy by mothers who will come there to deliver.
Support
The Mamponghemaa, Nana Agyakoma Difie II who spoke on behalf of the Asantehemaa, urged the hospital administration to make the most of the facility. She urged the public to support the hospital to deliver quality services to patients.
Maintenance culture
In his opening remarks, Nana Prof. Oheneba Boakye Adjei Woahene, the Foundation’s Board Chairman, recounted how Lady Julia, after seeing the horrible conditions of the Manhyia Government Hospital maternity block on social media, changed the narrative by leading the construction of the brand-new maternity block to assist pregnant mothers to give birth in a safe and secure environment. To ensure that the building fulfils its purpose for a very long period, he advocated for a good maintenance culture.
