NPP’s Northern Regions ‘Thank You’ tour strategic

The National Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) last Wednesday, April 7, 2021, commenced the second phase of their nationwide ‘Thank You’ tour to the northern parts of the country.

An official release indicated that they were expected to tour the Northern, North East, Upper East, Upper West and Savannah Regions.

As expected the exercise was meant to afford the party national leadership an opportunity to “touch base” with party grassroots, and share concerns in a spirit of camaraderie, as part of the party’s re-energization, restructuring and reorganization efforts.

Clarion call

The message the party would be delivering was simple: that was that the National Executives, led by the party National Chairman, Freddie Blay, would be using the occasion to engage the structures of the party on ways by which they can support the Akufo-Addo-Mahamudu Bawumia government to deliver on its second-term mandate in order to enhance the party’s chances of breaking the 8-year governance cycle.

That important message was necessary against the recent ‘games on the part of some interests groups within the party, who seem to enjoy the excitement accompanying flag bearer campaigns, regardless of the fact that the timing was premature and also the conversation inimical to party cohesion.

The tour followed one conducted for other regions during which the Executives interacted with party grassroots in the Greater Accra Region, Ashanti, Bono, Ahafo, and Bono East Regions.

Friendly north

Fortunately for the NPP, communities in the northern regions are beginning to understand the issues about development, away from the days when ethnicity and propaganda held sway over truth, development and the national fortune.

As we would recall, the northern regions were just coming from the stupor of an agro initiative that was supposed to turn the northern and Volta Regions around, together with other communities in the Middle Belt, particularly Brong Ahafo, which John Mahama and his goons in the NDC had been trying to add to their ‘kraal’ constituencies.

The bombshell was that the SADA project that was to be used as a decoy blew up, exposing Mahama’s government as hypocritical in their dealing with the northern regions.

It turned out that in the ensuing confusion in which the SADA corruption octopus impoverished communities in the north, the NPP became a friend to constituencies in the northern regions, culminating in political gains.

Thank You, northern regions

That is why any exercise such as the ‘Thank You’ tour on the part of the NPP leadership and the President and Vice President, for that matter, is a plausible effort at reconnecting with the grounds up North in laying robust foundations for the 2024 national campaign.

At this point, we join the party in saying ‘Thank You’ to our cherished constituencies in the northern regions for seeing through the lies that have been perpetrated over the years by the NDC, particularly, former President John Dramani Mahama.

Though it is early days yet, we believe constituencies have tasted a bit of what the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government is capable of doing and is further convinced that projects lined up for the north will be responsibly undertaken, including the Pwalugu agricultural initiative touted to deliver hundreds of thousands of jobs, unlike the SADA scam that NDC delivered roguery from Mahama and his NDC goons.
