NPP Reforms; Few Ideas – Musah Superior Writes
Musah Superior, a prominent figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has proposed a comprehensive set of reforms aimed at restructuring and strengthening the party. His 10-point plan includes abolishing the Polling Station Organizational layer, increasing democracy and inclusivity in internal elections, and reforming the National Council and Electoral Area Coordinator positions.
Some key highlights of the proposal include:
Community-Based Executives: Replacing Polling Station Executives with community-based executives to enhance grassroots participation.
Inclusive Internal Elections: Allowing all card-bearing members in good standing to vote in internal elections to reduce corruption and increase democracy.
Reformed National Council: Scrapping the current National Council and empowering the National Council of Elders to perform its role.
Strengthened Research Directorate: Decoupling research from elections and establishing a standalone Research Directorate to improve the party’s responsiveness to national issues.
These reforms, according to Superior, are crucial for the NPP’s rebuilding and repositioning ahead of the 2028 elections.
1. Abolish the Polling Station Organisational layer of the Party. It has outlived its usefulness. Replace it with community based NPP executives. Most of the Polling Station Executives are at best ‘delegates’ and do not perform the tasks or duties they have been elected to undertake. I propose five member executives for each community to be appointed by the Electoral Area Executives.
2. All card bearing members of good standing should vote in ALL internal elections of the Party. This is more democratic and inclusive. It will definitely minimise the level of corruption, bribery, and shameless use of money to influence the decision of our internal voters.
3. Scrap the Electoral Area Coordinator and replace it with 7 member Electoral Area Executives. I propose the following positions: Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Organiser, Treasurer, Women, and identifiable groups liaison officer.
4. Scrap the National Council. The National Council of Elders should be reformed and empowered to perform the role of the NC. We should discourage unnecessary structural beaureaucracy in the Party.
5. The National Chairman should be the LEADER of the Party at all times either in government or opposition.
6. Parliamentary leadership should be selected by Members of Parliament through a formula agreed by the parliamentary group.
7. Review and modernise the operations of the special organs of the Party to make them fit for purpose.
8. Members of the National Campaign Team should be appointed by the Party in consultation with the Presidential Candidate, not the other way round.
9. Elected officers, Parliamentary Candidates, should not be assigned roles on the National Campaign Team. They should concentrate on their roles as PCs and officers.
10. Research should be decoupled from Elections and Research directorate to stand on its own. We need to strengthen our Research Directorate to ensure that we are up to speed with issues impacting positively and negatively on the party, national economy, voter behaviour, etc.
#Rebuild and reposition our Party for 2028.
