NPP holds news conference in Kumasi today
The New Patriotic Party(NPP) will hold a news conference in Kumasi today. A statement issued by the party in Accra on Sunday, January 21, 2024, said the news conference will be addressed by the General Secretary of the party, Justin Kodua Frimpong.
It said the event will be held at the party’s regional office at Krofrom at 9 a.m.
Recent developments
The agenda for the news conference was however not disclosed but The Thunder gathered that it is in connection with recent developments which have the regional chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako a.k.a. Chairman Wontumi in the centre.
He is accused of making disparaging remarks against the Asantehene by saying he owns a kingdom in Ashanti, during the vetting of parliamentary aspirants of the NPP in the Ashanti Region recently.
Anger
This drew the anger of various groups in the Ashanti Region including the Ashanti Youth who have called for him to be banned from entering Manhyia Palace and other palaces in the region. “Perhaps if Chairman Wontumi wants to own his Kingdom he could do it outside the jurisdiction of the Ashanti Kingdom. We are, therefore, appealing to all paramount chiefs Divisional Chiefs and Sub-chiefs who pay allegiance to the Golden Stool never to grant Wontumi audience to their various palaces for grossly disrespecting the Golden Stool”, the Ashanti Youth stated at a news conference.
The Thunder is informed that the attention of the national leadership of the NPP was drawn to the development, with the General Secretary being invited to present Wontumi to the Kumasi Traditional Council to answer the allegations against him.
