National Sports Authority Board inaugurated

The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif (MP) has charged the newly inaugurated Board of the National Sports Authority (NSA) to work efficiently to promote and enhance the development of sporting activities in the country adding that the protection of the state’s investment in public sports infrastructure should be of paramount interest to them.

He said this at the inauguration of the newly constituted Board of the National Sports Authority on Wednesday October 13, 2021at the ministry’s conference room.

He challenged the new board to adopt an all inclusive approach in developing the fortunes of Ghana sports and to curtail the situation where other sporting disciples are neglected whiles there is over concentration on Male football.

According to him, the Ministry will provide the necessary platform for sports development to take its rightful place. He underscored the need to provide a sports fund to help drive the agenda of providing sports infrastructure and the general development of sports in the country.

Mr Ussif mentioned that the Sports Fund will help alleviate the financial burden of sports Federations and assured of his committment to ensure it’s passage by Parliament.

The 15-member board is mandated to advise the Minister on matters in relation to the promotion and development of sports and is chaired by Mr. Seth Panwum, the President’s nominee to the Board.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Board on behalf of members expressed his gratitude to the President and the Minister for giving them the opportunity to serve the state adding that they accept the responsibility to devote their time, knowledge and expertise to enhance the sector tremendously.

He indicated that he was very much aware of the challenges of the Authority and noted that together with the members they would pursue a vigorous strategy to grow and transform the sector.

The other members are the Director General of the National Sports Authority, Prof. Peter Twumasi, Director of the National Sports College, Mr Noah B. Bukari, the representative of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Eric Mensah- Bonsu , the representative of the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Gladys Osabuty, the representative of the Ministry of Education, Dr. Eric Nkansah and the representative of the Security Service Sports Association, Lt. Colonel Frank Kwesi Agyeman.

The rest are the representative of the Tertiary Institutions, Dr. Abdulai A. Jinapor , the representative of the National Paralympic Committee, Samson Deen, the representative of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Ben Nunoo Mensah, the member nominated by the Minister, Mr. Stanley Blankson Jnr, as well as Four persons knowledgeable in Sports Development; Nana Yaw Sarkodie Aboagye , Hon. Johnson Kwaku Adu, Naa Odofoley Nortey and Mr. Yaw Tuffuor.
