Mahama’s ‘Reset’ Means 100,000 Children Unable To Access SHS Annually — NAPO

Vice presidential candidate of the NPP, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh has once again taken on NDC presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama over his promise to “reset” Ghana in spite of his abysmal record as President.

Speaking at various engagement events in the Upper West Akim constituency as part of his campaign tour of the Eastern Region, he said the former president’s “reset” means many children would not be able to access Senior High School (SHS).

“Available data from 2013 to 2016 indicate that, on average, 100,000 children each year passed the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) but could not continue to SHS due to financial constraints, despite being qualified. Today, under the NPP government, these cost barriers have been removed, giving 5.7 million young people the opportunity to receive education, regardless of their circumstances at birth,” Dr Prempeh (Napo) stated.

He added: “If he claims he will reset Ghana, what he is really suggesting is a return to the time when 100,000 children each year were left in hopelessness and despair.”

Protect free SHS
Napo urged party faithful and all Ghanaians to campaign and vote for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to protect the transformative free SHS policy. He also called for the re-election of Frederick Obeng Adom as MP.

Upper Manya Krobo
Napo also campaigned in the Upper Manya Krobo constituency where he indicated that the future of the area and its people will be secured in the capable hands of Dr Bawumia “This is a race against a man [ Mahama ] who has previously served both as Vice President and President. Yet, while Dr Bawumia has only held the office of Vice President, his performance has been nothing short of remarkable. Given his exemplary track record as the second-in-command, it is only fitting that he be entrusted with the top position, rather than reverting to a leader whose record as President did not merit him a second term in his two attempts,” Napo stated.

He expressed the hope that Upper Manya Krobo will also deliver an overwhelming victory for the NPP parliamentary candidate, Joseph Tetteh.
