COP28 in Dubai: Dr Opoku Prempeh advocates teacher, policymakers collaboration in climate education 

Teacher leadership and collaboration with policymakers must be at the centre of the design and implementation of the future of climate education actions, the Minister of Energy, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh has suggested.

He said climate education policies informed by teachers will be better climate education policies for all stakeholders.

Dialogue session

Dr Opoku Prempeh was speaking at a high-level dialogue on Climate Education, at the COP28 ‘Education Day’ in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Friday, December 8, 2023.

The theme for the discussions was, “Policy Practice Think Tank for the Future of Climate Education”.

Organised by Teachers for Planet Global Community, the platform sought to put the spotlight on education policy and implementation plans in the context of climate change.

The event, which also featured the Minister of Education from Portugal, Joao Costa and other panelists, provided key policy perspectives on the important subject that has far-reaching implications for global future.

Background

COP28’s flagship Youth, Children, Skills and Education Day put young people at the centre of climate diplomacy like never before with a series of events designed to facilitate meaningful dialogue between young delegates and policymakers.

On the day, the UAE also announced a new $220 million funding package for Africa, to help drive better health outcomes for youth.
