Kim Kardashian Completes Law Program After Six-Year Journey

After six years of study, Kim Kardashian has finished her law program.

On May 21, Khloe Kardashian posted a series of Instagram stories of her sister’s private graduation ceremony, which featured speeches about her years-long effort to be part of criminal justice reform.

In 2019, Kim Kardashian spoke about her passion for prison reform in an interview with Vogue, citing it as the driving force behind her decision to pursue a legal education. Despite having never obtained an undergraduate degree, the 44-year-old pursued a nontraditional legal education path known as “reading the law,” a program available in California and a number of other states. The approach allows individuals an opportunity to qualify for the bar exam under the mentorship of a licensed attorney.

Khloe Kardashian posted a video capturing her sister sitting on the side of a small stage as two of her mentors spoke about her achievements. Attorney Jessica Jackson, one of the mentors who sponsored Kim Kardashian during her studies, lauded her for putting in the work to achieve her goal while also working as a mother, businesswoman and public figure.

“It’s an absolute honor to stand here today, not just as mentors, but as witnesses to one of the most inspiring legal journeys we’ve ever seen,” Jackson said. “Six years ago, Kim Kardashian walked into this program with nothing but a fierce desire to fight for justice. No law school lectures, no ivory tower shortcuts, just determination and a mountain of case log books to read.”

Jackson underscored how Kim Kardashian allocated 18 hours a week, 48 weeks a year, for six straight years to study.

“That’s time she carved out while raising four children, running businesses, filming television shows and showing up in courtrooms to advocate for others,” Jackson noted.

In March 2025, E! News reported that Kardashian took the Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (MPRE), The National Conference of Bar Examiners notes that the MPRE is a requirement for bar admission in every U.S. jurisdiction (except Wisconsin and Puerto Rico).

Another one of Kim Kardashian’s mentors commended her in the ceremony for focusing her efforts on marginalized groups.

Attorney and CNN political correspondent Van Jones was also in attendance and delivered a speech that captured the early skepticism surrounding Kim Kardashian’s legal ambitions and intentions.

“I’m trying not to get emotional,” he said before thanking Kim Kardashian for her efforts and praising her commitment to criminal justice advocacy. “Six years, seven years ago, when you were working on criminal justice, you were not embraced by anybody.”

Jones went on to recall how she chose to work with individuals he described as having been abandoned by society, and at times, their own families.

“The advocates are always last in line on the other, more popular causes,” he explained. “It’s a lonely fight.”

More photos capturing the event showed Kim Kardashian being celebrated by her sister Kourtney Kardashian Barker as well as a number of her children.
