GJA Honours Otumfuo for His Peacebuilding Legacy

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has honoured His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, for his remarkable contributions to democracy, peace, and the fight against illegal mining (galamsey) in country.
The honour was bestowed upon the revered Asante Monarch during the 29th GJA Media Awards, held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
The awards, the first to he held outside Accra, had KGL group as headline sponsor.
In a special citation, the GJA touched on Otumfuo’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in Ghana, particularly in the face of the galamsey menace.
The GJA recognition came moments after President John Dramani Mahama also took a moment to personally eulogise Otumfuo, celebrating his profound impact. “Your leadership in promoting peace and unity is a tremendous source of pride for all of us,” Mahama stated.

Awareness
The GJA observed that the Asantehene’s efforts have been instrumental in raising awareness about the dangers of illegal mining and promoting sustainable development in the country.
The GJA is also happy that Otumfuo had destooled some chiefs under his kingdom solely due to their involvement in illegal mining.
Hosting awards
expressed its profound gratitude to Otumfuo for hosting the prestigious awards ceremony, which brought together President Mahama, the Acting Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, the Executive Chairman of KGL Group, Alex Apau Dadey and others prominent members of the society.
The citation was presented to Otumfuo by President Mahama.
The event was a grand success, with 27 individual journalists and 7 media houses receiving awards for their outstanding work in responsible journalism.
