Former President Mahama Sweats Over Corruption Tag; Attacks Ben Ephson
Former President, John Dramani Mahama, is struggling to overcome the corruption tag placed on him.
In a desperate effort to extricate himself from corrupt acts allegedly perpetrated by two of his former appointees, the office of the former President, on Tuesday, June 25, issued a statement fighting back, and insisting that he is incorruptible, while lunching a blistering attack on senior journalist, Ben Ephson.
Dubai properties
A report by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) on ‘politically exposed persons’ who own properties in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, mentioned four politically-exposed Ghanaians as owning $8,409,400 worth of real estate in Dubai.
Among them is Inusah Fuseini, a former Minister of Lands and Natural Resources in the erstwhile Mahama government, who is alleged to own 20 apartments in Dubai. Also in the allegation is Moses Asaga, a former MP and former chief executive of the National Petroleum Authority, who was also captured in the report with one Dubai property being linked to him.
Mahama fights back
Even though the former President was not mentioned in the report, his office issued a statement on the matter insisting that he is incorruptible.
The statement, which was signed by his spokesperson, Joyce Bawah Mogtari said, Mr Mahama “has consistently emerged untarnished, a testament to his unwavering integrity.”
Ben Ephson attacked
The statement accused journalist, Ben Ephson, of using his newspaper to link Mr Mahama to the Dubai matter.
“No amount of loose and imagined associations from Ben Ephson and his NPP friends can overturn this immutable fact that Mahama stands vindicated from all their mudslinging,” the statement said.
