Breaking the silence: Kobby Kyei’s campaign redefines masculinity in Ghana
Ghanaian online journalist and Boys Lives Matter Too advocate Augustus Koranteng Kyei, known as Kobby Kyei, is leading a movement aimed at empowering boys to express their emotions freely and break societal stereotypes about masculinity.
In an exclusive interview on Penpensiwa with Obomengniibaa Nana Akua on AsaasePa 107.3, Kobby Kyei explained that while many initiatives focus on empowering the girl child, the boy child has often been overlooked.
According to his research, almost 90 percent of boys lack emotional attachment from their parents. Boys are frequently taught to bottle up their feelings instead of expressing them openly.
The Boys Lives Matter Too campaign seeks to challenge these harmful societal norms by encouraging boys and men to be open about their struggles and feelings. The movement pushes back against the stigma that men should not show emotions, promoting mental health awareness and emotional freedom as crucial components of male well-being.
Kobby Kyei’s campaign advocates for a society where boys can develop emotional intelligence without fear of judgment or rejection. He believes this change will not only improve individual lives but also foster healthier families and communities.
