Accept Asantehene’s ruling — Garu MP to Bawku factions

On the eve of the historic mediation conclusion, Dr. Thomas Anaba, the Member of Parliament for Garu, issued a heartfelt and urgent appeal to all factions embroiled in the protracted Bawku chieftaincy conflict.

He implores them to accept the ruling of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as a definitive and final step toward peace.

This final mediation session, scheduled for today Monday, December 1, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, represents the culmination of a high-stakes diplomatic effort to end one of Ghana’s most deadly and long-running disputes.

Dr. Anaba lamented the decades of devastation wrought by the conflict, which has resulted in extensive loss of lives, destruction of property, and crippling of resources, stressing that peace is the only acceptable and viable path forward for the people of Bawku.

Speaking to Citi News on Sunday, November 30, Dr. Anaba urged all stakeholders to embrace the Asantehene’s pronouncement in good faith and commit fully to restoring lasting harmony in the Bawku enclave.

Foundation for unity and development

Dr. Anaba emphasized that genuine unity and collective acceptance of the ruling are the indispensable foundations for sustainable development in the area. “There’s not much to expect but peace in Bawku,” he stated. “We have spent a whole lot of years, a lot of resources, time wasted, lives lost, and businesses destroyed because of this conflict”.

Confidence

Acknowledging the complexity of the task, he expressed confidence in the mediator’s process: “The Asantehene has handled it gently, step by step, and finally brought us to this point”.

New dawn

Dr. Anaba framed the Asantehene’s ruling not as an end, but as a crucial new beginning. “What we are expecting is that his pronouncement will bring peace, so the government will take his recommendations and everybody will accept their implementation to the letter,” he said.
