Bawumia pushes hard in Ashanti Region; No path for contenders in party stronghold

The massive endorsement Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is enjoying in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) stronghold of Ashanti Region is hurting the fortunes of the other candidates in the contest .

Regional, constituency and polling station executives, have come out in their numbers to openly declare for the Vice President who is currently on a campaign tour of the region. They believe that it is only the Vice President who has what it takes to ‘break the 8’.

Analysts
Investigations by The Thunder reveal that the other contenders are going to have a hard time breaking through the Ashanti Region, the political world bank of the ruling party.

“Clearly, there is no path in the Ashanti Region for the Vice President’s contenders to use to become the flagbearer of our party. I don’t think any of the nine persons contesting with Dr Bawumia would be able to beat him,” a constituency executive told The Thunder on Tuesday.

Constituencies visited
Constituencies visited by the Vice President as of Tuesday are Subin, Suame, Manhyia North, Manhyia South, Atwima Mponua, Atwima Nwabiagya South, Atwima Kwanwoma and Kwadaso.

Others are Asante Akim South, Asante Akim North, Asante Akim Central, Bosome Freho, Akrofuom, New Edubiase, Adansi Asokwa and Adansi Fomena. The rest are, Sekyere Afram Plains, Drobonso, Kumawu, Effiduase-Asokore, Juaben, Obuasi East, Obuasi West, Odotobri and Manso Adubia.

Dr Bawumia has carefully tailored his message to sit well with delegates. Devoid of attacks on his opponents, he has been telling delegates what he had been able to do for his party and nation, and what he intends to do as presidential candidate and as President.

He insists that he is the most experienced candidate in the contest, and justifies it with hard facts.
