Bawumia joins Otumfuo to celebrate last Akwasidae of the year
Hundreds of people from Asanteman and beyond , on Sunday November 26, 2023 joined the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at a durbar at Manhyia Palace in Kumasi to celebrate the last Akwasidae of this year.
The Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife, Samira Bawumia were at the durbar.
They were accompanied by some officials of the government and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) including the Minister of Energy, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh; the Ashanti Regional Minster, Simon Osei-Mensah; the national chairman of the NPP, Stephen Ntim; the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong; the National Organiser of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye, and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako.
Also in attendance were traditional rulers, officials from the main opposition NDC, and some state and private institutions, and visitors from the diaspora.
Tradition
Tradition, in Asante style, was at its best as Otumfuo, in all his glory , sat in state for his subjects and well-wishers to pay homage to him. Traditional dancers entertained the crowd to some spectacular performances. Donations mostly assorted drinks were made to the Asantehene.
Bawumia shows gratitude
Speaking in Twi, the Vice President who is also the NPP flag bearer for the 2024 elections, expressed gratitude to the Asantehene for his prayers that helped him secure victory in the party’s presidential primary.
He said although he won the flag bearer election, the overall victory went to the NPP. Dr Bawumia prayed to God to give Otumfuo long life in good health. He told the Asantehene that he would make himself available, anytime the King calls him.
