“You’re a phenomenal leader” CIHRM-Ghana confers honorary fellowship on Dr Opoku Prempeh

“Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh is a phenomenal leader who shows a sense of responsibility at all times.
“He is articulate, and firm and shows leadership when it matters most.“

These were the words of the President of the Institute of Human Resource Management (CIHRM), Ghana, Dr Edward Kwapong, when the institute conferred an honorary fellowship on the Energy Minister on Friday, November 24, 2023 at a ceremony in Accra.

Dr Opoku Prempeh popularly known as Napo, who is also the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South was honoured for the immense support he, as Minister of Education, gave to the institute, to attain its charter in 2020, leading to the coming into force of the CIHRM Act, Act 1020.

CIHRM
The CIHRM brings together human resource practitioners who work in both the public and private sectors of the Ghanaian economy. The institute was established in 1978 and registered as a professional body in 1981.

Accomplishments
Dr Kwapong noted the sterling leadership of Dr Opoku Prempeh, which led to the passage of the Chartered Institute of Human Resource Management, Ghana Bill. “The CIHRM is so proud of the accomplishments of Dr Opoku Prempeh and is proud to confer this fellowship on him” he stated.

He added: “I wouldn’t do justice to the organizers of this event, if I fail to say a few words about the Honourable Minister in whose honour this event has been organized, having worked to him through the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations for a period and having observed his achievements and exploits in the two ministries over the past few years.  “If I was asked to describe him in one sentence, I would say that he is a man with a colossus of a brain.  A true Matthew with a good memory and who pays attention to detail.  A gift of God or a gift of Yahweh, according to Hebrew mythology”.

Gratitude
For his part, Dr Opoku Prempeh expressed gratitude to the institute for the honour done him. He said he is once again encouraged as a public official to work hard in the interest of the country. “I have always held the view that, Human Resource Management as an academic discipline must be properly regulated, as it forms the basis for the proper management of all professions in the context of ensuring optimal productivity at the work place. “For me, it was just a necessity to have the CIHRM properly grounded in law, in the interest of our country and in line with proven best practice,” he said.
