Arise Ghana Petitions US Embassy for Extradition of Ken Ofori-Atta

Arise Ghana has formally submitted a petition to the United States Embassy in Accra, calling for the immediate extradition of former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta , to face legal proceedings in Ghana.
The civil society organization said the petition is part of its ongoing commitment to promoting accountability and upholding the rule of law, emphasizing that no public official should be above it.
The submission comes on the fourth day of the Arise Ghana demonstrations at the US Embassy, marking the final day of the first phase of the picketing.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines, Director of Field Operations for the United Party, Hopeson Ardoye, appealed to the US authorities to cooperate with Ghanaian officials in repatriating Mr. Ofori-Atta.
Arise Ghana reiterated that the petition is not politically motivated but a demand for transparency and justice, reflecting widespread public concern over the former minister’s alleged actions.
“You people should try and bring Ken Ofori-Atta back, that represents the masses. Nobody should think that we are wasting our time, we are not. Look at the number of police officers currently here trying to maintain law and order.
“Had it not been Ofori-Atta, will they be here? Had it not been him, will I be here? We believe it will yield the needed result. Our petition is for the authorities in the United States to know that this is not a political persecution but the call for Ken to come home and answer questions,” he said.
Meanwhile, one of the group’s conveners, Bernard Mornah has noted that the protest has been suspended as they await response from the US Embassy.
“We have suspended our picketing for at least a week to allow the US to respond to us. If the response is favourable, we seize to come here,” he said.
