NDC begins candidate nominations for Tamale Central today

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has today, Friday, August 22, 2025, opened nominations for its parliamentary primaries in the Tamale Central Constituency.

The move follows the passing of the constituency’s Member of Parliament, Dr. Murtala Muhammed, who died in the August 6 helicopter crash that claimed eight lives.

In a statement signed by General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey on Wednesday, August 20, the Party announced that nomination forms will be issued and submitted at the NDC Northern Regional Office. The process closes on Sunday, August 24.

The statement outlined guidelines for the primaries, noting that a certified delegates’ list will be provided to aspirants after the vetting process.

Nomination forms will cost GH₵5,000, while filing fees have been pegged at GH₵40,000. Female aspirants and persons with disabilities will enjoy a 50 percent concession on the filing fee.

Meanwhile, the opposition NPP indicated that they are not going to contest in the Tamale Central by-election in respect of the late MP for the area, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.
