NPP Members Demand Explanation from Despite Media Over Kwami Sefa-Kayi’s Absence

Some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have called on Despite Media, operators of Peace FM, to officially explain the prolonged absence of ace broadcaster Kwami Sefa-Kayi from the airwaves.
Reports suggest that the media organization’s management has decided to permanently remove Sefa-Kayi from the Kokrokoo morning show in an effort to reconcile with the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The Thunder has not independently verified this claim.
Transformation
For years, Sefa-Kayi hosted Kokrokoo, transforming it into one of Ghana’s most-listened-to morning shows.
An NPP activist lamented on social media: ”His unmatched consistency, hard-hitting interviews, and authoritative voice made Kokrokoo a household name.”
Tension
However, tensions between the show and the then-opposition NDC escalated in 2023 when the party announced a boycott, accusing Sefa-Kayi of bias.
The NDC particularly objected to his frequent references to expelled former Central Regional Chairman Allotey Jacobs as a party representative.
In an apparent bid to mend relations after the NDC’s 2024 election victory, Peace FM reportedly compelled Sefa-Kayi to issue a formal apology in January 2025. Despite this, the NDC refused to return to the programne.
New Host
Sources within the NPP indicate that Nana Yaw Kesseh is expected to continue as the new host of Kokrokoo.
Possible NPP Boycott
Meanwhile, NPP members are urging the party to also boycott the show if Sefa-Kayi is not reinstated.
