NAPO Urges 2024 WASSCE Candidates to Set New Academic Records
The Vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has challenged the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) candidates to set new academic records.
Drawing inspiration from the accomplishments of previous candidates, he expressed confidence that the 460,611 students sitting for this year’s exams have the potential to either maintain or surpass existing records. “It is possible!” Dr Opoku Prempeh emphasized, encouraging the students to strive for excellence.
Dr Opoku Prempeh, a.k.a. Napo, made these remarks on Tuesday while extending his best wishes to the candidates.
Success
He highlighted the significant increase in candidates—up by 183,349 from 274,262 in 2016—as evidence of the success of the Free Senior High School Policy, which has removed financial barriers and led to an increase in SHS enrollment.
“I am privileged to have been tasked by H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to implement this transformational policy in the very first year of his government. I assure you that, by the grace of God, I will fully support the next President of the Republic, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in protecting and enhancing this policy, which is truly transforming lives and changing life outcomes for millions,” he stated.
Background
A total of 460,611 candidates, comprising 212,954 males and 247,657 females from 1,003 schools have registered for the examination, which is being conducted at 1,000 centers across the country.
The exams are scheduled to conclude on Friday, September 20, 2024.
