Bawumia Offers Hope For Mining Sector— Kejetia Community
The chiefs and people of Kejetia, a mining community at Talensi in the Upper East Region have welcomed the vision of the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the mining sector.
According to them, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia offers hope for the mining sector, and therefore wished him well in the December 7 elections. The chiefs and people made these known when the NPP flagbearer interacted with them on Thursday, May 16, as part of his tour of the region.
Vision
During the fruitful interaction, Dr. Bawumia shared his vision for Ghana, with the people, if elected President.
Among others, he outlined his vision to support small-scale miners by formalising the sector and granting small-scale miners licenses to operate while supporting them with equipment and other facilities.
Minerals Development Bank
Dr. Bawumia said his government will establish a Minerals Development Bank to support the mining industry, just as the Agricultural Development Bank does for the agriculture sector.
He explained that the bank , to be established by his government in collaboration with relevant state institutions like MIIF, PMMC, the Bank of Ghana, and the private sector, will finance viable local mineral projects and mitigate foreign financing of local mining projects, which leads to heavy smuggling of the produce afterwards.
Bolgatanta
Later in the evening at Bolgatanga, the flagbearer had another engaging session with the youth. They asked questions and made contributions to his presentation. Dr. Bawumia thanked the Upper East Region for the massive support given him.
