CAF announces new AFCON 2023 kick-off date
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced the dates for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
The competition, which will feature 24 of Africa’s best nations, will commence on Saturday, January 23, 2024, with the opening ceremony and match taking place at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan.
The event will conclude four weeks later on February 11, 2024.
This marks the 34th edition of the tournament and it returns to Cote d’Ivoire for the second time after its first hosting in 1984, where Cameroon emerged as winners.
The qualified countries include defending champions Senegal, Morocco, Algeria, South Africa, Burkina Faso, and Tunisia, with six other nations securing their places after a recent round of qualifiers.
The remaining 17 places will be determined after matchday five and six matches in June and September, respectively.
CAF’s General Secretary, Veron Mosengo-Omba, has also confirmed that the Final Draw of the Africa Cup of Nations 2023 Cote d’Ivoire will take place in September this year.
