EOCO Hunts NDC’s Yaminn, Abanga Over Galamsey

The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has instructed the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate the National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Organiser, Joseph Yaminn, and Third Vice Chairman, Yakubu Abanga, over alleged involvement in illegal mining (galamsey).

The directive follows accusations by small-scale miners, who identified the two officials among individuals allegedly supporting a rogue anti-galamsey taskforce that has been harassing licensed miners.

The miners, in a statement dated July 9, 2025, and signed by their Chairman Andrew Abban, alleged that the illegal taskforce, which has been extorting money and harassing miners, is linked to Yaminn and Abanga.

Directive
In a letter dated July 15, Dr. Ayine directed EOCO to summon the named individuals for interrogation: “I am directing your office to invite the following persons named in recent credible reports for interrogation, namely, Mr. Yakubu Abanga and Mr. Joseph Yaminn.”

Others
He further expanded the scope of the investigation to include other individuals implicated in illegal mining activities, referencing matters outlined in Prof. Frimpong Boateng’s report on the subject.
Additionally, EOCO has been authorized to invite the CEO of the Minerals Commission to assist with the probe.
