Africa Prosperity Dialogues can create conglomerates – Alex Dadey

The Africa Prosperity Dialogues (APD) provide a fine platform to craft innovative ways to build African conglomerates, the Executive Chairman of the KGL Group, Alex Apau Dadey has observed. Such conglomerates, he said, could transform the continent, and create prosperity for the people.

Mr Dadey said this in a speech at a cocktail reception for partners of the 2024 Africa Prosperity Dialogues (APD 2024) in Accra on Thursday, November 23, 2024.

The Africa Prosperity Network (APN) , organisers of the APD, in conjunction with the KGL Group, one of its partners, organised the cocktail reception, which sought to prepare the partners for the 2024 dialogues.
Heads of various institutions, captains of industry and leaders of the international community including ambassadors and high commissioners attended the reception.

APD 2024, which will take place in Ghana from January 25 to 27, 2024, will be hosted by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Peduase Lodge.

The dialogues will tackle the continent’s critical challenges and priorities, including value addition and infrastructural development, agriculture and food security, sustainable development of natural resources, and industrialization.

It will be on the theme, “Delivering Prosperity in Africa: Produce, Add Value, Trade”.

New thinking
Mr Dadey also called for a new thinking on how Africa countries can attract wealth to the continent to advance investment.

Furthermore, he said it was time African businesses invest in the Western world and repatriate their profits to build Africa, the same way Western countries are doing in Africa.

Productivity
The Minister of Trade and Industry, K.T. Hammond, who was the special guest for the ceremony, said economic prosperity hinged on a thriving productive sector, through value addition.

It is for that reason that the APD 2024 holds a lot of positives for the country. “I’m elated that this platform unites us in a shared vision to unlock Africa’s immense potential by fostering robust partnerships and collaborations. It’s through such collaborations that we can propel the AfCFTA agenda, enabling inclusive growth, job creation and shared prosperity for all Africans,” he said.

Single-market trade
The executive chairman of the APN, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, said the APD 2024 will witness heads of businesses in Africa coming together, to think together, plan together and work together with the political leadership on how to make single-market trade a reality.

“We are not just going to have conversations, we will see deliverables from there [the APD]. And whatever comes out of the Dialogues, there will be a compact that will be presented to the AU for their consideration,” he said.
Take advantage

The Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, welcomed the impressive representation of the business community at the cocktail. He urged them to take full advantage of the many brilliant ideas that will be shared at the APD 2024.
