Your actions are scaring investors – Afenyo-Markin to Minority

The Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has hit out at the Minority Caucus in Parliament for obstructing government business and scaring investors.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday (5 June), Afenyo-Markin accused the Minority Caucus of sabotaging government business by misleading the public with false allegations of unapproved contracts by various state agencies.

Last week, the Minority in Parliament raised concerns of what it described as the government’s blatant violation of the Public Financial Management Act.

The Minority contend that some of the government’s sole-sourced agreements must be subjected to parliamentary approval.

However, Afenyo-Markin said the Minority should not be demanding parliamentary approval of every government transaction.

“It is important to remind our colleagues that they ought not to make Parliament a busybody nosing for things that are not part of the mandate of Parliament. Our job as Parliament is provided for in the Constitution and I will urge our friends in the NDC that by that act.”

“They are obstructing government business by the act they’re scaring investors and that affects the economy. If businesses are hearing such news basically, they are not going to give up their best people keep their money and that will affect the good people of Ghana,” he said.
