World leaders attend Tinubu inauguration today
World leaders including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo are in Abuja for the inauguration of Nigeria’s President-elect Bola Tinubu and his Vice Kashim Shettima today, Monday, May 29.
President Akufo-Addo arrived in Abuja on board the presidential jet yesterday. Media reports in Nigeria said 65 worldwide are expected to attend the swearing-in.
U.S. President Joe Biden appointed a nine-member delegation headed by Marcia L. Fudge, US Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, as his representative at the inauguration.
Interest
The inauguration, which will take place at Eagle Square in Abuja had garnered interest from African leaders, a director from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, speaking anonymously to The Punch, said.
Notable Nigerians, former presidents, ambassadors, chiefs of international organizations, and officials from other countries will also be in attendance.
The inauguration festivities commenced on Thursday with the conferral of the Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR) upon Tinubu and Vice-President-elect Kashim Shettima.
