US Embassy Warns Ghanaians About Visa Fraud and Fixer Schemes

The United States Embassy in Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to welcoming Ghanaians seeking to study, invest, or engage in legitimate business activities in the US, but has cautioned against illegal entry attempts and the use of unverified intermediaries in visa applications.

In a public advisory, the Embassy emphasised the importance of complying with US immigration laws, warning that any efforts to falsify information, work without proper authorisation, or overstay a visa will attract serious penalties.

“We remain committed to welcoming visitors from Ghana who wish to study, invest, or engage in business activities in the United States. It is essential for all applicants to comply with US laws,” the statement read.

The Embassy also addressed a growing concern about the reliance on visa fixers and consultants who claim to facilitate or guarantee successful visa applications—some of whom charge exorbitant fees while providing misleading information.

“You do not need the services of a fixer or visa consultant to apply for a U.S. visa. This can be done directly through our official website at no extra cost,” the advisory stated.

It further warned that no individual or third-party agent can guarantee a visa approval, describing such claims as fraudulent and intended to exploit unsuspecting applicants.

The US Embassy urged prospective travellers to rely solely on official information channels and to approach the visa process with honesty and transparency to avoid being defrauded or sanctioned.

As part of its public education efforts, the Embassy continues to encourage Ghanaians to seek credible information through official websites and platforms, and to report any suspicious activity involving visa scams or misinformation.
