Kennedy Agyapong lied in his bribery allegation against Bawumia’s campaign team – Gideon Boako

The Bawumia campaign team has dismissed media reports in which Kennedy Agyapong is alleged to have indicated that some members of the campaign team attempted to bribe him to step down and be made the running mate to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 presidential election.

In addition, the campaign team said it is not true as alleged by Mr Agyapong that Dr. Bawumia is collapsing the party through intimidation.

The allegations
Speaking at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi last Saturday following a march organised by his supporters, Mr Agyapong , who is an NPP presidential aspirant, alleged that he rejected an attempt by Dr. Bawumia’s campaign team to offer him a bribe to back out of the race and accept the position of running mate.

The Assin North MP also accused Dr. Bawumia of engaging in activities that could undermine the unity of the party.

Rebuttal
But, in a sharp rebuttal, Dr Gideon Boako, the spokesperson of the Vice President said, “We wish to state in unequivocal terms that the Bawumia campaign team has not approached Kennedy Agyapong for such a running mate offer, nor have we assigned any member of the team to approach him for the same. “It is also not true as alleged by Kennedy Agyapong that Dr. Bawumia is collapsing the party through intimidation. “

Unity
Stressing that the unity of the party has been of great concern to Dr. Bawumia, the statement added, “ It is in light of such concern that he refrains from responding to unwarranted attacks by others in the contest and has cautioned his supporters against responding to such provocative attacks.“

The statement explained that Dr. Bawumia’s strategy has been to persuade delegates to support his bid. “This he does, by laying his vision for the party and country. “

Core values
The statement reiterated that the Bawumia campaign believed the contest for flag bearer of the NPP is an internal one, for which reason , all actors, particularly the aspirants must be guided by the core values of the NPP, which include truth, decorum, and respect for one another.
