‘The Adutwum Factor’ – Former Education Minister Drops Hint on Presidential Ambitions

Former Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has stirred speculation about a potential bid for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential nomination in 2028, following a striking but now-deleted social media post that many interpreted as a subtle campaign teaser.

The post, which briefly appeared on Dr Adutwum’s official Facebook page on Thursday night, featured a stylised image with the bold inscription: “The Adutwum Factor: The NPP’s surest bet for victory 2028.” It was accompanied by a poetic caption that hinted at leadership, vision, and national transformation:

“In the silence of the noise,
One man’s record speaks louder than mere campaign chants.
One man’s impact echoes across every region.
One man’s vision is what Ghana needs for a total Ghanaian transformation.”

Although no formal announcement was made, the post has been widely interpreted as the former minister’s clearest signal yet of interest in the party’s top slot following the 2024 elections. Its removal has only added to public curiosity.

Dr Adutwum, who served under former President Nana Akufo-Addo, earned recognition for his technocratic leadership of Ghana’s education sector, particularly his work on the Free SHS programme and the country’s burgeoning STEM agenda.

His image as a policy-driven reformer has drawn praise among younger voters and technocrats.

The timing of his post is notable, coming just days after outspoken former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong reaffirmed his own intention to contest the NPP flagbearer slot for 2028.

Political observers believe Dr Adutwum’s appeal may lie in his performance-based messaging and vision-oriented rhetoric – a contrast to more populist contenders in the party.

While the post has vanished from his feed, its message appears to have landed: Dr Adutwum is stepping into the spotlight, and the road to 2028 may already be underway.
