Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu is a ‘big shoe’ I’m going to wear – Afenyo-Markin

The new Majority Leader and Member of Parliament (MP) for the Effutu constituency, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has poured praises on the immediate past Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, for his wealth of experience in Parliamentary procedures.

The Effutu legislator, who described Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu as a “big shoe” he is going to wear, said the outgone Majority Leader’s experience and understanding of the Parliamentary procedures is difficult to match and that he will not fail to consult him for his counsel.

Mr Afenyo-Markin was delivering his acceptance speech as the new leader of the Majority side on Friday, February 23, 2024, after the Speaker, Alban Bagbin, had read a letter from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) announcing him (Afenyo-Markin) as the new Majority Leader, following the resignation of Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who is also the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs resigned his position as the Majority Leader on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.

He appealed to both sides of the chamber to work together in order to sustain the country’s democracy, pointing out that “let us make our people to understand that the essence of democracy is to discuss ideas.”

Mr Afenyo-Markin further urged the legislators in the chamber to let their constituents know that “we don’t fight in this chamber.”
