Scores join Otumfuo to celebrates 2nd Akwasidae of the year

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on Sunday February 18, 2024, observed the second Akwasidae of the year at a mini durbar at the Manhyia Palace.

Chiefs and other citizens of Asanteman, as well as guests from across the country and beyond joined His Majesty to mark the important event on the Asante calendar.

Among the guests were members of the Ashanti Regional Security Council, led by the Regional Minister Simon Osei-Mensah, officials of Opportunity International Savings and Loans Limited, the Church of Christ Ghana, Osibor Boxing Management and Promotions, African Helps UK, and German-based Ghanaian social activist Victoria Baxter.

Homage
At about 12.30pm, Otumfuo sat in state to receive homage from his subjects and guests. Typical of Akwasidae celebrations, the King did not give a speech. There were donations mostly in the form of drinks to the Asantehene as custom demands.

However, some of the guests were given the opportunity to speak.

Opportunity International Savings and Loans Limited
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Opportunity International Savings and Loans, Kwame Owusu Boateng, who led the team from the company, expressed their appreciation to Otumfuo for sending a representative to the launch of their 20th Anniversary celebration on February 16, 2024, and sought the blessing of the King towards the celebrations. The company donated GHC50,000 to the Otumfuo Charity Foundation.

Victoria Baxter
Victoria Baxter, popularly known as Madam Afua Durowaa, who led some German officials to Manhyia, informed Otumfuo about her objective to acquire some lands depleted by illegal mining to establish a residential facility at Mpatoam for Ghanaians who seek to return home.

A proposal of the project, she indicated, had been submitted to the Bundestag of Germany with the team sent to Ghana to inspect the land.

Church of Christ
The Church of Christ donated GHC330,000 towards the “Heal Komfo Anokye Hospital” project. Rev Dan Owusu Asiamah, the head of the Takoradi Central Church of Christ, said they were delighted to see Otumfuo spearheading the mobilization of $10 million to undertake the project and therefore decided to come in to support the laudable initiative .

Nkosuo Division
The Nkosuo Division of the Kumasi Traditional Council also donated five brand new motorbikes to the Manhyia Palace to aid service delivery for the 25th Anniversary of the coronation of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. The motorbikes were presented by Nana Osei Kwame Kyeretwie, the head of the Division.
