“Sack You or Be Sacked Myself” – Energy Minister Jinapor To Power Sector Staff

Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has issued a stern warning to administrative officers within the energy sector, cautioning that anyone found to be underperforming or undermining the system will face immediate dismissal.
Speaking during a meeting between the Energy Committee of Parliament and key stakeholders in the power sector, the Minister emphasized his zero-tolerance stance on inefficiency and sabotage.
“I’m serious about this,” Jinapor stated. “If we find that any administrative officer, whether a Director, General Manager, or Area Manager, is not adhering to laid-down procedures, is complacent, or is actively sabotaging the system, you will be dismissed.”
He added, “If I don’t sack you, I’ll be sacked. So I want to appeal to the Chairman and members of the Committee, we must all work together to ensure accountability and performance.”
Meanwhile, the Minister disclosed a new policy requiring all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to make budgetary provisions for their electricity consumption.
“All MDAs must pay for their power usage. They are now required to budget for it, including institutions in the health, education, and security sectors, as well as the Office of the President,” Jinapor said.
He clarified that certain essential services would be exempt: “In the health sector, only critical units such as laboratories, theatres, and wards will be exempted. For education, dormitories and dining facilities are excluded; only lecture halls are covered under the new directive.”
