Rousing welcome for NAPO at Kristo Asafo Mission – Says next NPP gov’t will strengthen relations with the Church

New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential running mate, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, received a rousing welcome at the premises of the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region on Sunday.

Napo, as he is popularly called, paid a visit to the founder of the church, Apostle Kwadwo Safo, and also participated in the Kristo Asafo Annual Church Conference and unveiling of a new constitution of the church.

Thunderous cheers
Thousands of church members waved and cheered the NPP running mate as he made his way into the premises.

Accompanied by some party officials including the national organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, a.k.a. Nana B, the smiling Napo waved back to the thunderous cheers.

 

Napo preaches peace
Addressing the conference, Dr Opoku Prempeh thanked Apostle Safo for standing strongly behind the NPP. He stressed the need for the consolidation of the country’s peace. “We must jealously guard against those who seek to divide us along the front of religion. We have a country to build, a society build on the cardinal principles of freedom and Justice as our national motto enjoins us,” he told the gathering.

He indicated that the church is a major stakeholder in that enterprise. “We of the NPP, in recognition of this, will continue to engage the church on several fronts and I am confident that in you, we shall find worthy allies, sharing a common vision for our beautiful country,” he said.

Bawumia’s resolve
Dr Opoku Prempeh conveyed the best wishes of Vice President and NPP flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s to Apostle Safo and the church. He emphasized Dr Bawumia’s resolve to strengthening the relationship between the next NPP government and the church, as well as collaborating in the area of skills development for employment creation.

Napo said it was heartwarming to have interacted with Apostle Safo, a man he considers his father, seeking his blessings in the new phase of his life.

Unity
Apostle Safo called for unity in the NPP , saying in unity all things are possible.
