Rotary International Honours Asantehene
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has been inducted as a Paul Harris Fellow at the maiden district conference of the Rotary Club International District 9104, held at the Golden Bean Hotel in Kumasi on April 12, 2024.
The King was recognized for his immense demonstration in promoting development.
Paul Harris Fellow is a recognition of individuals who have contributed $1,000 in their name to the Rotary Foundation.
Rotarians from across the globe including United States of America, Benin, Togo and Nigeria attended the event, which was also watched live through the power of technology across the world.
Rotary commended
The Asantehene commended Rotary for its significant contribution to Ghana’s socio-economic development.
He said Rotary International, through its affiliates, had always been a pillar of hope for many people.
Economic empowerment
Otumfuo expressed delight that Rotary has made economic empowerment a central focus of its activities.
“Economic empowerment has also been a key focus with Rotary’s work in micro-finance, vocational training and agricultural support catalyzing economic growth, job creation and self-sufficiency, thus; re-enforcing our economic fabric,” he stated,
Loans
The District Governor (Rotary District 9104), David Osei Amankwah said as part of the features of Rotary, members were committed to empowering the people economically by giving microloans to small groups and tracking the progress of their businesses.
Present at the event were the IGP, Dr George Akufo Dampare; Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah; and the GOC of the Central Command, Brig. Gen. Michael Opoku. Other dignitaries included Rotary International President Representative, Drew Kessler, and Past Rotary International Director (PRID), Sam Okudzeto.
