Richard Ahiagbah Claims President Mahama Risks Presidency to Shield Sammy Gyamfi

The Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has criticised former President John Mahama for what he describes as undue protection of Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), following a recent controversy.
“Everyone in the NDC knows that Sammy Gyamfi is like a son to President Mahama. So there is no way President Mahama will sack him,” Ahiagbah stated. “Just as President Akufo-Addo put his presidency on the line to fight galamsey, that is how President Mahama has put his presidency on the line to protect Sammy Gyamfi.”
His remarks follow a viral video that surfaced on Saturday, May 10, 2025. In the footage, Gyamfi is seen handing over an undisclosed amount of dollars to self-styled evangelist Nana Agradaa, a gesture many Ghanaians have criticised as inappropriate and out of step with the values of public service.
The video sparked public outrage and calls for Gyamfi’s suspension or removal from office, with critics arguing that his conduct violated the Code of Conduct for appointees under President Mahama’s administration.
Subsequently, President Mahama forgave him, saying Sammy Gyamfi’s apology was enough.
Commenting further, Mr. Ahiagbah said, “The spirit and principle of the Code of Conduct is to uphold a standard of behaviour that reflects the expectations of Ghanaians. Any action that borders on antisocial or unethical conduct must be addressed within the framework of that code.”
