President Mahama reaping benefits of Akufo-Addo’s economic foundation – Stephen Amoah

The Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr. Stephen Amoah, has stated that the John Mahama administration is benefiting from the strong economic foundation laid by the previous Akufo-Addo government.

Speaking ahead of the presentation of the 2026 Budget Statement on Thursday, November 13, Dr. Amoah said the current government cannot claim credit for the state of the economy, as it has yet to implement significant policy interventions.

“The economy is doing well, but the NDC government and this whole executive body have done virtually nothing about the economy. They haven’t done anything. What have they done?” he said.

Dr. Amoah, who served as Deputy Finance Minister under the Akufo-Addo administration, added that the current government inherited a well-resourced and stable economy.

“They are not underperforming their benchmark, but they are still in the preparatory stage. You can’t use six months just to turn things around. I’m not saying they are not doing well or they are doing well, but they should be honest with Ghanaians.

“The performance of the economy today has virtually nothing to do with the NDC government. What we’re experiencing today is as a result of the prudent economic management of the previous administration,” he said.
