President Mahama Not Sincere in Resolving Bawku Conflict – Kusasi Leader

“It is clear that the President is not sincere; either the government is not sincere, or they are incompetent.”
This strong statement was made by Prof. John Azumah, the President of the Kusaug People’s Congress, regarding President John Dramani Mahama’s handling of the Bawku conflict.
In a media interview on Monday, Prof. Azumah expressed disappointment, stating that the people were hopeful when the President visited Bawku just a week after his inauguration and made promises about addressing the conflict.
However, he criticized the President for failing to deliver on those promises.
Frustration
He stated that frustration is growing among the Kusaug people.
“The President is underestimating the intelligence of the people, and that is why there is anger on the ground. You came to Bawku, and since then, nothing has changed. He is just continuing the same old practices,” Prof. Azumah pointed out.
Two chiefs
He further stated, “President Mahama has repeatedly said that there cannot be two chiefs in Bawku. He has made this statement on various political platforms, yet we still have two chiefs. I want to emphasize that unless this issue is resolved, there will be no peace in Bawku, and the situation will only escalate.”
Conflict spreading
Prof. Azumah warned that the conflict is spreading.
He thus cautioned the government, saying, “If they are not careful, Bawku will embarrass this government, and they will have to explain to Ghanaians why they allowed this conflict to fester and spread to the rest of the country when all they needed to do was enforce the law.”
