President Mahama Commissions New Embassy Chancery in Ethiopia

President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned a new chancery for Ghana’s Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, marking a significant step in strengthening the country’s diplomatic presence on the continent.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, in a Facebook post on Monday, February 16, described the edifice as more than just an office complex, stating that it represents Ghana’s firm belief in multilateralism and its commitment to the vision of the African Union.
According to him, the commissioning of the new chancery also reflects Ghana’s resolve to deepen bilateral relations with Ethiopia and signals President Mahama’s readiness to assume the Chairmanship of the African Union in 2027.

The project, which spans a decade, dates back to 2016 when funding was secured under the SG-SSB facility. Construction later stalled due to economic challenges before the current administration resumed work and settled outstanding Interim Payment Certificates (IPCs) last year.
