President John Mahama set to deliver first State of the Nation Address ahead of economic dialogue – Kwakye Ofosu

President John Dramani Mahama is preparing to deliver his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) ahead of the National Economic Dialogue scheduled for 3 March, officials say.

The address, in line with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, is expected to provide a comprehensive assessment of Ghana’s economic situation and outline the government’s strategy for national development.

“In a few days’ time, President Mahama will address Parliament and deliver a message on the State of the Nation,” Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, disclosed after a Cabinet meeting Thursday. However, he did not specify the exact date for the address.

The meeting was convened to discuss key national issues, including security, the economy, and the much-anticipated 24-hour economy policy.

Security officials assured the Cabinet that despite existing threats, Ghana remains stable. Defence Minister, Interior Minister, and the National Security Coordinator provided updates on the country’s preparedness, stressing that the government is committed to maintaining national security.

A major focus of the meeting was the 24-hour economy initiative, a flagship policy designed to boost economic growth by promoting continuous business operations. Presidential Adviser on the initiative, Goosie Tanoh, reported that preparations for the full rollout were progressing as planned.

He revealed that a dedicated secretariat would soon brief the nation on the official roadmap, signaling a significant step toward implementation.

The Finance Minister, in his briefing to the Cabinet, painted a stark picture of Ghana’s economic situation, stating that the realities are worse than initially perceived during the election period. Despite the challenges, he expressed confidence that the government’s strategies would help revitalize the economy.
