Prepare For Rigorous Vetting – Minority Tells Justice Baffoe-Bonnie

The Minority in Parliament has hinted of a tough vetting for the Acting Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, when he appears before the Appointments Committee of Parliament.

They have therefore advised him to prepare adequately for the exercise.

This follows the referral of President John Dramani Mahama’s nomination of Justice Baffoe-Bonnie as Chief Justice to the committee by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, when the House reconvened on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.

Concern

During discussions on the floor, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin expressed concerns about what he described as constitutional lapses regarding both the nomination and the assumption of office by the Acting Chief Justice.

He emphasized, “The nominee for the Chief Justice position must come prepared to earn the House’s approval. If you arrive unprepared—without your judgments or answers regarding your involvement in your boss’s termination or concerns about your conduct—you will need to address those questions. So, it is essential that you prepare.”
