Police pledge adequate security at NPP flagbearer elections
The Police have pledged their commitment to provide adequate security, resources, and intelligence to ensure law and order during the November 4 presidential primary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
They have consequently called on the party to give them the necessary support to undertake the task successfully.
The assurance was given in Accra on Monday, October 9, 2023, when the police held a meeting with the NPP Presidential Election Committee and representatives of flagbearer hopefuls to discuss and strategise security arrangements for the presidential primary.
Discussions
Discussions at the meeting centred on the safety of the flagbearer hopefuls, supporters, and the general public as well as the security of the entire electoral process. Participants were frank and forthcoming with their contributions.
Police want peace
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare who presided at the meeting, said the police wants to see that the election passed peacefully.
It is therefore incumbent on the party and its members and especially, supporters of the flagbearer aspirants to keep within the laws in the interest of all.
Assurance
The party members at the meeting also assured to cooperate with the police in their operations to ensure the successful orgnisation of the elections. They said the NPP had proved to be a party that respect the laws and will not deviate from that.
In attendance were members of the Police Management Board.
