Police Investigate Reported Attack on NPP 3rd Vice Chairman in Akwatia

The Akwatia District Police Command has launched investigations into an alleged assault on Alhaji Masawudu Osman, Third Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), during events in Akwatia on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

Tensions flared at the Akwatia Lorry Station in the Vawaso Electoral Area on Tuesday during the by-election, when a confrontation broke out between Alhaji Osman Masawudu and the escort of the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka.

Narrating the incident, Alhaji Masawudu said the altercation occurred while he was speaking to the media near the Akwatia Zongo area, where he had been deployed to monitor the polls.

According to a statement issued by the Eastern South Regional Police Command on Thursday, September 4, 2025, Alhaji Masawudu was provided with a police medical form to seek treatment at a hospital, after which the endorsed form is to be returned to aid further investigations.

The case has since been referred to the Eastern South Regional Police Command for continuation of the probe.

The statement, signed by DSP David Fianko Okyere of the Public Affairs Unit of the Eastern South Region, assured that the police are committed to ensuring a thorough investigation into the matter.
