Police charge NDC Manhyia South Organizer over inflammatory comments

Police in Kumasi have charged the Manhyia South Constituency Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhassan Mustapha, with two counts of offensive conduct conducive to a breach of peace, and making threats of death.

This followed a viral video in which Mustapha was seen allegedly making some inflammatory remarks, specifically at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) threatening that the NDC will unleash violence if the NPP attempt to rig the December 7 general elections.

Mustapha who was being sought for by the police in respect of the viral video, reported himself to the police yesterday, Tuesday, February 20, 2024, in the company of his lawyer and some party officials in the region.
He was made to write a caution statement , after which he was charged and granted police enquiry bail.

What suspect said
In the video, the NDC Manhyia South organizer was heard saying if the NPP loses the elections and refuses to hand over power to the NDC there will be war and “we will kill you.”

NDC assurance
Executives of the NDC in the Ashanti Region have stated that the party will not condone intimidation and selective police action.

However, the party condemned every inflammatory comment that tend to threaten the peace of the country.
Speaking to the media, the NDC Regional Secretary, Dr Frank Amoakohene, said the statement made by Mustapha was premised on an argument he was having with an NPP member, who allegedly stated that the ruling party will never hand over power to the NDC even if the opposition party wins the elections.

He said for now Mustapha is only a suspect since he had not been formally charged before court. Dr Amoakohene stated that the legal team of the suspect was ready to take up the challenge based on the next police action.
