Police arrest 48 suspected cybercriminals in Dawhenya

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Sam George, has announced the arrest of 48 suspected cybercrime operatives in a coordinated intelligence-led operation in Dawhenya, Ningo-Prampram Constituency.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, Sam George said the operation, carried out at night, was led by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) in collaboration with the National Security and the Ghana Police Service.
He noted that the suspects, believed to be Nigerian nationals, included 46 males and two females. Preliminary interrogations linked them to various cyber-related criminal activities, including romance scams, online investment fraud, impersonation schemes, and illicit online gold trading.
Items seized during the operation included 54 laptops, 39 mobile phones, one Starlink internet device, and eight MTN TurboNet routers.
“Once again, we have struck at the heart of cybercrime operations within our beloved homeland,” Mr George said. “We are committed to carrying out intelligence-led surgical strikes against these crime syndicates to ensure that we rid our cyber ecosystem of these criminals.”
He emphasised that Ghana welcomes legitimate business but will remain a hostile domain for cybercriminals. Mr George commended the security operatives for their professionalism and wished Ghanaians a “merry digital Christmas and a cybercrime-free New Year.”
