Otumfuo’s visit to Memphis yields more results; Diaspora group in Kumasi to explore investment opportunities

A delegation of the Asante diaspora in Memphis, USA, made up mainly of the investment community, has paid a visit to Ghana to explore investment opportunities particularly in Asanteman.

The visit followed a meeting the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II had with the Asante diaspora in Memphis when he visited the USA in 2022 to headline the Memphis in May International Festival, which was dedicated to saluting the Republic of Ghana.

At that meeting, the diasporas expressed the utmost honour to have received the Asantehene, and promised to respond to his request to come home to support the development of their roots.

Consequently, the group, arrived in the country about a week ago to work on the kings request.

Akwasidae
On Sunday, October 15, 2023, the seven-member group was at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi to celebrate the 7th Akwasidae of the year with the Asantehene.

The visit of the investors come after the Asantehene, recently secured a scholarship package for Ghanaian students to study at the prestigious University of Memphis. The scholarship package also followed the King’s visit to Memphis.

Delight
The group expressed their delight to be back home to help in the development of Asanteman and Ghana.
They presented gifts to Otumfuo ahead of his 25th coronation anniversary next year.

Los Angeles, Asante collaboration
At the event, a message from the Mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, was read and presented to the King.
It was read by Kimberly Stotzer, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of New Community Investment, an investment club dedicated to providing financial resources to minority communities in Greater Los Angeles.

In the message, the Mayor indicated that the city of Los Angeles is taking steps to strengthen its collaboration with Asanteman for mutual benefits.

“The delegation is excited to support continued cooperation between our two nations and they look forward to learning and exploring other partnership opportunities. I’m committed to deepening our collaborations and strengthening ties between our communities. I look forward to finding more opportunities for change in the years to come,” the message stated.

Otumfuo appreciative
Communicating the King’s message to the delegation, Oheneba Boachie-Adjei, Otumfuo Hiahene, said, His Majesty is appreciative of the visit, and especially the initiatives to bring his people back home and also to explore the opportunities for investment as well as help in social responsibility programmes.

“His Majesty believes that you will be back again after your exploration with projects that will translate into improving the quality of lives of His Majesty’s kingdom and that of Ghana,” the Hiahene told the delegation.

He also requested of them to look at ways of supporting Otumfuo’s initiative to raise $10 million to renovate the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH). “You can put it on your agenda so that when you get back, you get your colleagues to support,” he told them.
