Otumfuo’s legacy project: Renovation works begin at KATH

Renovation works have begun on the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) weeks after the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II launched a $10 million fund raiser to bring life back to the 69-year-old hospital.

The works have started with the roofings which have developed defects as a result of long years of neglect.
The renovation is a legacy project for His Majesty’s silver jubilee coronation next year. A visit by the Thunder to the hospital revealed that the project, had started in earnest .

Decision
The decision by the Asantehene to lead the charge to raise funds to renovate the hospital underscores his quest to see the hospital maintain high standards and keep pace with modern healthcare delivery.

The renovation works includes upgrading and modernizing infrastructure, renovating patient care areas, optimizing medical equipment and technology, and improving overall accessibility to create a conducive environment that promotes healing, supports medical advancements, and ensures the delivery of quality healthcare service.

Good news
The Chief Executive of KATH, Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah said at the hospital’s 2023 Thanksgiving Service and workers’ awards ceremony that, “The good news is that since the launch of the Heal Komfo Anokye project, the public response has been so encouraging that work on the project has commenced on the repairs of the roof of the blocks, which have been leaking for years.”

He added: “My major appeal remains that fixing the sorry state of the blocks is going to require the contributions of all philanthropic individuals and entities in the country and beyond. With no major repairs since their construction in 1954, facilities in the old Gee blocks have suffered massive deterioration and are no longer fit for the delivery of contemporary specialist in-patient services. We are, therefore, urging those who are yet to respond to the appeal of Asantehene to do so in the coming weeks so that the project can be successfully executed in time for the good of the country.”
