Otumfuo to Host GJA Awards at Manhyia Palace on November 8

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has expressed its honour in having Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II agree to host this year’s GJA awards at the Manhyia Palace.

The 29th GJA Awards, scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025, will mark the first time the association holds its flagship event outside Accra.

During the launch of the awards in Accra on Thursday, October 9, GJA President Albert Dwumfour stated that having the occupant of the Golden Stool host Ghanaian journalists at this event is a profound honour.

He remarked, “It is going to be a convergence of tradition, wisdom, and professionalism.”

The theme for this year’s awards is “Safeguarding Ghana’s Future: The Role of the Media in Promoting Peace, Security, and the Fight Against Galamsey.”

King of peace

Mr. Dwumfour emphasized that the Asantehene embodies values such as peace, justice, and leadership—qualities that are essential to responsible journalism. “It is His Majesty’s stewardship of Asanteman and his unwavering dedication to Ghana’s unity that makes the GJA proud to have this royal and national celebration,” he stated.

He added, “His presence will elevate this year’s event to a level of prestige befitting our noble profession.”

Decision

Mr Dwumfour said the decision to hold the awards in Kumasi is more than just a change of venue; it is a symbolic statement of inclusivity.

It signifies the GJA’s commitment to making the association truly national, felt and celebrated in every region of Ghana.

Approximately 1,000 guests—including government ministers, diplomats, corporate leaders, journalists, and representatives from civil society organizations—are expected to attend the event.

“It will be a convergence of royalty, excellence, and purpose, where Ghana’s finest storytellers will be celebrated under the royal canopy of Manhyia,” Dwumfour asserted.

Programme

The event is titled the “Kumasi Experience.”

On Friday, November 7, there will be a welcome reception at Lancaster Hotel in Kumasi.

On Saturday, November 8, a health walk will take place in the morning, followed by the awards ceremony at 4 PM at the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Jubilee Hall at Manhyia Palace.

At 7 PM, the King will host a dinner ball for the participants.
