Otumfuo Keen To Visit Rwanda
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has expressed his desire to visit Rwanda “at the earliest opportunity.”
He expressed the desire on Friday, April 19 during a courtesy visit paid to him at the Manhyia Palace by the Rwandan High Commissioner to Ghana, Rosemary Mbabazi.
Invitation
During the visit, the High Commissioner informed the Asantehene of the activities planned by the High Commission of Rwanda in Ghana for the 30th commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi and extended an invitation to him to join Rwandans and friends of Rwanda in the activities. She also extended an invitation to the King for a state visit to Rwanda.
Rwanda’s strides
Otumfuo commended President Paul Kagame for the gains Rwanda has chalked up under his administration and expressed his willingness to honour the High Commissioner’s invitation to visit Rwanda at the earliest opportunity. “I heard so much about Rwanda in terms of the leadership, the President and the ways he brought the country back after 1994. I also heard about the development there. It gives me great joy that an African country can be very resilient to stand on its own feet,” Otumfuo said.
The Asantehene encouraged African countries to continue to unite and integrate their economies under the Africa Continental Free Trade agreement.
Silver Jubilee
Touching on his reign, the Asantehene said, “25 years leading my people to help develop them and Ghana has been 25 years of integrity, honesty and fashioning ideas that carry them all together. I have survived the 25 years with their love and affection and integrity and support. We will continue to do it. Leadership is all about having the vision and carrying the people along to achieve it. That is what I have done for Ghana all these years.”
Great leadership by Otumfuo
Ms. Mbabazi expressed her delight to witness the glorious history Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is writing with his leadership, which has benefited Asanteman and Ghana. “The purpose of our visit is to pay a courtesy call and thank you for the good work in your community. We have heard a lot and we’ve learnt the history when we were so young and we are so happy to be here to witness the history you are making. You are doing an amazing job, we have heard about it. We also congratulate you on the 25th anniversary. We are so happy to be here to build the bridges between Rwanda and Ghana,” the High Commissioner said.
The High Commissioner, who was accompanied by the Second Counselor at the Rwanda High Commission in Ghana, Theophile Rurangwa, also stated: “We are so delighted to be here. I have been in Accra for the last six months. I joined the High Commission in October last year and one of the Agenda was to visit Kumasi and a visit to His Majesty.”
She commended Otumfuo for his unprecedented and exemplary leadership over the past 25 years.
